Michael Howard teaches history of art at Manchester Metropolitan University. Trained as a painter, he has shown at the Royal Academy and is the author of numerous books on nineteenth century and twentieth century art, including L S Lowry: A Visionary Artist. In 1996 he produced an award-winning dramatic interpretation and publication of material originally performed by the Zurich-based Dadaists of 1916 and he is the author of UPclose, a personal response to the collection at Manchester Art Gallery. He is currently writing a book on Claude Monet.
